How Early is Too Early?

Whew!  Another year down and another year older.  Man, each year really does seem to fly faster than the one before.  Why is that?  Is it because once you graduate high school, college and get married your life just gets busier?  The daily routine of a job and all those other adult responsibilities really hack away at the precious time we’re given.  Not even going to mention what happens after you throw a few kids into the picture.

Around here, the stores are already taking down the fall and Thanksgiving decorations and putting up Christmas stuff.  Ack!  Can’t we at least make it to the actually week of Thanksgiving?  And as Beppie said last week in her post, those catalogues just keep on coming.  So it doesn’t matter if you stay at home and try to avoid all the madness either.  It comes straight to your house.

I’m just trying to figure out how to slow it all down a bit.  My kids are growing up way to fast and I want to enjoy these last few years before they head off to college too.

So I’m wondering.  How early do you start getting ready for the Christmas holiday?  Do you wait till Thanksgiving is over?  And how long?  Do you set up or buy your Christmas tree the weekend after?  Or do you wait till the first of December and enjoy fall a bit longer?

  1. We wait until the 1st weekend in December to put our tree usually. Now shopping that’s another matter. i start Christmas shopping very early. I pick up stuff here and there when I can find a good deal on it and put it away. I usually pick up stuff on clearance after christmas that can be used for birthdays and stuff throughout the year.

We also are big on donating to Toys for Tots in Little Rock. We have a big motorcycle parade (over 1500 motorcycles) and then go up to “Toy Hill” and drop our toys off. I also buy for this year round.

My mom on the other hand is a christmas freak as I posted on one of our other blogs. She is already decorated for christmas. It would drive me crazy to have it up that long. Some of our stores started decorating before Halloween this year too. Way too early for me!!!!

  2. I so agree with you on each year flying by faster and faster, Melissa. Especially this year. And it REALLY flies when you’re having fun. Lol We usually put up our tree and other Christmas decorations after the Thanksgiving holiday. It seems like they start sending out Christmas catalogs earlier and earlier each year, don’t they?

  3. Heather, that’s usually when we get started. Some of our neighbors are already putting up the Christmas lights. It’s just not right in my head. LOL

The parade sounds cool! What a great tradition to be apart of. 🙂

  4. Now having fun is the best way to pass the time, Jamie. At least you’re getting to do what you love. 🙂 And yes, those catalogs come earlier each year and I’m getting ones from stores I’ve never even shopped at. What’s with that? LOL
