Why pick a Jarhead?

Hi. Keri here. or not really here, here. I’m cruising around with my characters Parker and Stephanie from Through The Wall over at Riding With The Top Down. In my place today I’ve got a real gem for you. He’s a Marine and he’s hot. No wait, I’m confused. I saw the pictures already and I’m a bit flustered. The brilliant critique partner behind all my Apple Trail books–the Marine’s WIFE–the very lovely and talented KJ Reed is here with you!

In my new book Faithful To A Fault, out on January 12 with Ellora’s Cave Pete Goodwin is a Marine. A lifer. The boy will be buried in his blues. A Jarhead, and proud of it. But why? Why did I make him a Marine, and not a firefighter? Or a powerful CEO? Or a million other professions?

Well, they always say “Write what you know…” I know Marines. Or, more specifically, one Marine. My husband.

No. Don’t stop reading. This isn’t going to turn into one of those mushy “My husband is my hero and I puffy heart wubs him with sugar on top!” posts. I swear. Stick with me, now.

Marines, and not just my husband, but Marines in general are like, the epitome of a romance hero. First of all, let’s face it. I’m shallow…and there’s a sort of body requirement. As in, no slobs allowed. Haha Physical fitness tests are given, and given often. Can’t keep up? Sorry. Secondly, let’s just say it:

The very hot Mr. KJ Reed

The Uniform. Oh mother of Chesty Puller. Cammies with the sleeves rolled up, straining over biceps. Watching them PT with their olive undershirts clinging to their torsos, highlighting each and every…sorry. Where was I? Ah, and let’s face it: Nobody goes into the military for the money. It’s about duty, honor, courage. Commitment. Love of Country. Could I have more perfectly described the core values of the man almost every woman wants to meet?

And most of all…I have the world’s easiest research with my husband at hand! What’s easier than yelling across the apartment “HEY HONEY! WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU…” Poor man. He puts up with so much. *evil laugh*

If you love yourself a Marine, check out my new release, Faithful to a Fault, releasing January 12. And if you can’t wait, you can first meet our hero Pete in Text Me, out now.

What profession does your ideal hero have?

  1. What a cutie in that picture…and the baby’s not bad either! hee hee

I think the reason we love Marines is that it is so much fun to make a man who is trained to control himself in all situations lose it!

  2. Absolutely Cyndi! That tough, serious, “nothing ruffles me” attitude is always so fun to break down. 🙂

  3. thanks for visiting today KJ and taking my place while I’m away. Love the pics! love seeing a man whose that strong and capable of so much holding that little baby girl 🙂

  4. Great post KJ. Love the picture of your hubby and baby. I like my heros in some brawny profession. Cowboys and lumberjacks. mmmmm

  5. Yay, Pete! Gorgeous cover for this one KJ. Can’t wait for it to come out.

  6. Welcome, KJ –

Love marines. Well, military guys in general (no pun intended :)) My husband was in the Navy, and, whoa, momma, he was to die for in his dress whites. Conjure up an Officer and a Gentleman. That last scene. Richard Gere in his uniform. Yeah.

Well, my husband looked mighty fine in his. Wish I could find a pic, but we’re still in boxes.

We were stationed at a Marine base – Parris Island, SC, so I am well-familiar with jarheads. They are a special breed.

    Thanks for visiting with us!
